What's
on - Performances
Pictures
Four
times a year, Word for Word organises a public reading of a selection
of our work, in the same room where we have our Word for Word writing
sessions – the Original Gallery upstairs at Hornsey Library. Louis
Cennamo and Special Edition play some mighty
fine jazz, there's a friendly bar at very reasonable prices, Brian
Docherty sells copies of members work, including all Word for
Words anthologies and there is usually a second hand bookstall as well.
These highly enjoyable evenings have rather inaccurately become known
as “Performance Evenings” but in fact only one or two of us
would describe ourselves as “performance poets” When selecting
work to be read, preference is always given to work generated within the
group, and we try to achieve a balance between poetry and prose; humour
and poignancy.
Apart
from the December date, Performance Evenings are held on the nearest Wednesday
to midsummer or an equinox. Doors open 7pm, Performance starts at 7.30

Finally,
thanks to everyone who contributed. Performance Evenings do not
simply "happen" Someone has to book the room; send out
the invitations; select the work; devise a programme; buy the booze; run
the bar, arrange the chairs, hang the curtains, arrange the stage, set
up the bookstall, play the music. And then take it all down again
afterwards. Many people helped, but special thanks to Runilla; Viv; Brian;
Louis; Jane; Lynda and Edward.
