Novelists' Group

The Word for Word Novelists Group meets upstairs in the Crouch End Library on alternate Wednesday afternoons from 3.15pm to 5.15pm.

Everyone in the group is in the process of starting, writing or re-starting a novel. Anyone who has ever tried their hand at writing will understand what a compulsive and isolated activity this can be. We hope by belonging to the group to support and encourage one another.

We are open to novelists of every kind and no two members are ever writing the same kind of work. Some members of the group are old hands at getting published, others are trying to get a first novel published and some members are writing for the sheer fun of it.

The only requirement is that people who join the group must make a serious commitment to attend regularly and put in the effort to give constructive feedback to the other members. The format we use is that two members present some of their work at each session. The work is circulated before the session to give other members time to read and think about it. The presenters are free to ask for any kind of comment or reaction they like.

We are not professional critics so often the feedback is as much about the person giving it as the work itself. We learn a lot by watching other people struggling with the endless dilemmas of trying to write a novel. We all love the group and find it positive, helpful and energising.
To be practical we have to limit numbers to around a dozen but we welcome new members whenever there is space so if it sounds like the right thing for you, do get in touch.
